First Impressions

While I was super hopeful for this one, it had some toxic elements that I am not used to seeing with this author, in fact I am honestly shocked that this happened with a main character. And I do wish the reviews for this book had been more honest about the heroine and the zero chemistry this couple has so I could have known going in how bad she truly is or I probably would have skipped it or picked up the ebook instead of wasting money on the audio.

What I Loved

The only thing that I found redeemable in the story was the hero ….he was such a solid guy that had a heart of gold and had such a caring nature and wasn’t appreciated for any kindness he gave to the heroine or her family. I appreciated his patience and understanding and not letting the cruelty of the women in this book get to him and I just wanted to applaud him and award him with a woman that would appreciate him as he deserved.

What I Struggled With

Man this book is the WORST book this author has ever written and I am still shocked Bella Matthews wrote this and honestly I am wondering if she even wrote this one here. I gave the book up to 50% before I decided to DNF it. There was NO chemistry between these two, there was nothing real happening between them that even made sense on why they were even together or why the hero even cared about this heroine. The heroine treated him HORRIBLY. Like truly, I haven’t a clue why no reviews on goodreads are even calling this out. He does kindness towards the heroine and she literally demeans him and talks so cruelly to him. How is this a heroine worth wasting time on? Like truly? I am sorry but this is a red line for me. Black Cat heroines are truly the worst in romance and most romance authors have ZERO clue on how to write them well.

Narration

The narration was fine on this one but I had to delete it from my audible library and wish that I had known about this heroine so I didn’t waste my money on this one.

Overall Thoughts

While the premise of the story had such promise as I love fake marriage and all that…..I just couldn’t with the abusive nature of the heroine.
